It's Sunday
easter's not a big holiday in my world. as far as i'm concerned, i told my mother, the three major holidays worth celebrating are thanksgiving, christmas and my birthday. none of my kids have sweet tooths, chocolate i can take or leave. hard boiled eggs, even the shells, skeeve me out. baby bunnies and chicks grow into noisy roosters and randy rabbits who park themselves outside the window just to taunt buddy.
so it's an ideal holiday to spend in a soup kitchen. as part of his mission to Make the World a Better Place, Beloved helps run the holiday soup kitchen run by hands-on hartford (formerly center city churches manna ministry). there aren't too many soup kitchens open on holidays, and while at thanksgiving and christmas, volunteers come crawling out of the woodwork, everyone seems to forget about easter.
so i figured it was my turn and dragged meg and libby along for good measure. they served drinks. Beloved told everyone what to do. i waited on tables, scrubbed fruit and floors, and smiled to hear the latinos make poetry of my name.
i think it was one of the best easters ever.

My little one got up. I have new picture up if you want to see it. Happy Easter.
That is a sweetness that this holiday has forgotten.
What a great way to spend a holiday. I used to spend Christmas afternoon at a boys' juvenile detention center...doing arts and crafts.. eating cookies..and letting them feel like kids for a little while-- most of them were there because of bad home lives... those Christmas' are very near and dear to my heart.
My world is a better place when I can visit your blog!!! :)
Happy Easter, Annie! :)
This is my first Easter here in USA. :)
Sounds like an awesome Easter! :)
That's a nice way to spend Easter.
What a great way to spend the day.
Happy Easter, Blessed Pesach, Bring on the pagan symbols!
I finally posted my Friends Award, so sorry for the delay. Thanks again.
Awww! That sounds like the perfect Easter! I told hubby the only holidays that I truly 'care' about are Christmas, birthdays, Anniversary and Valentine's Day (ones that a thoughtfully purchased card would be appreciated). Of course Thanksgiving is on the list, but not for sentimental card-giving...) ;) Since Princess Nagger is so young, the Easter Bunny visit is fun to do for her, but when she gets older I think your idea is a great one! :)
I usually travel on Easter and my kids are now used to not having me around. To me as an adult, easter= spring, rebirth, break/holiday, and the hours of stations of the cross are a faint memory, save for this holiday as I was in Spain and it is the most SACRED of ALL holidays which meant no hotel in Madrid.
Here is to the joy of spring.......and rebirth on all levels.
