the balancer

last night, before i went to bed, i drew four cards, just to see what dreams may come. the first card i drew, from the celtic wisdom deck by caitlin matthews, was the eleventh card of the major arcana - the balancer, or as she is known more traditionally, as justice.

last night, i simply sat with the card. this morning, after writing out the introduction to tarot notes for this evening's class, i looked up the meaning in the book and saw that, appropriately for me, the ogham tree ms matthews associates with this card is holly. so i decided to read a little further.

according to ms matthews - "the balancer of harmony opens the ways (including the dream-ways) but also guards them. a life lived in full integrity is one that submits all its motivations and actions to truth first, rather than seeking to find out how truth may be bent to serve us."

she leaves me with a question - and which i will leave for you, gentle reader.

what keeps you in balance with the universe?

and furthermore, the war must end. blessed be.

Your question, combined with Ms. Matthew's comments got me a-ponderin'. Through morning laundry and other housekeeping, I roll balance and integrity over in my mind, in my heart, in my core. Not unfamiliar territory for these . . . Words.

Let me attempt a succinct nutshell (just the shell, mind you. No nut) . . .

I recall my daddy speaking these familiar words (out of context, but I do like the way they stand alone), "To thine own self be true."

THAT *is* Integrity.

Knowing *and* Living our own truths, regardless of the world's view of them, offers us a place to perch, a place to root, a place of balance. Dynamic balance--sure, yet absolute balance nonetheless.

Truth and Integrity . . . could be a Pagan Wisdom discussion topic . . .

your words are true, rose... it seems to me that this dynamic truth-in-motion would be the only kind of Truth we can really ever attain or hope to know with any certainty in this three dimensional world we live in...

Three dimensions?

Only three?

Wait . . .

I've lost count . . .

I'll have to get back to ya . . .

(have an amazing class tonight!!!)

Annie- teaching! how awesome! I have the Mythic Deck and have done readings at fairs and while I don't feel anywhere near 'expert' with them, I'm always so impressed with what they have to say.

Balancer...very interesting. Opens the ways and guards them.

What keeps me in balance with the universe...why does this seem difficult to answer? Acknowledging the universe, connecting with it, participating.

I hope you 'balance' having fun /and/ learning at your class!

Best wishes!
Linda

Good question on the balance....time alone without intrustions. That helps me connect with my family (zee kid, zee animals under my roof). I feel great when I regularly meditate and talk to God. If I slack, well then, I limp through my days moreso. I limp alot! =)
