why i'm hopeful - #562

there's a lot of reasons to be happy about tomorrow, but here's mine.

for the first time in a long time, there's going to be a grandmother in the White House. not someone who is a grandmother and happens to also be married to the president - but a bona fide grandmother who's there to do Grandmotherly things. so not only is there a First Wife, there's a First Grandmother, too - who raised quite an impressive daughter. so that doesn't just mean there's a grandmother, there's a Grandmother - someone who KNOWS what she's doing when it comes to taking care of the people in her life.

a few years ago, i read an article in the new york times that reported about how the presence of the maternal grandmother is frequently the deciding factor in whether or not a child survives in africa.

a few years ago, when janet jackson had her wardrobe malfunction and the whole world gasped at the sight of a nipple (OH MY GOD LIKE WE DONT ALL HAVE THEM?) i noticed it happened on imbolc, and i said to laura that i thought we'd seen a manifestation of divine feminine energy and power.

i think we're seeing another one now.

i am so glad that a Grandmother is going to be there. One who did not grow up with a silver spoon and who raised a daughter to be independent and strong, not to mention caring and compassionate. After this weekend I learned that jason's grandma was not only his grandma, but a grandmother to the entire community. It was very touching, and while I don't agree with her belief system she really did help a lot of children make their way in the world. thanks for giving me the basis for what I am about to write about today.

Grandmothers have this way of knowing when things are wrong - and telling it like it is. God bless grandmothers world wide!

grandmother moon, mother earth, the crone, the hag...divine female in whatever form is absolutely returning...and also that the new white house will honor HER.

I, too, am very happy that there will be a grandma in the White House. Someone to provide roots and calm and a center. To bring a sense of family history. The next four years will be difficult enough as it is, a grandma will be & bring blessings.

I think it's so great that Michelle Obama's mom (and the girls' grandmother) is going to be there with them...grandmothers just have that special ability to keep people 'grounded'... ;)

Behind every great man, there's a great woman!! :) I believe Obama is a great man, and he's got TWO great women behind him and another two great-women-in-training. Hopefully this is a very good sign for our country...!!

My WV word is "buriededge" ..... hmmm.

Cheers!

So good to have a grandma in the White House! Talk about the Goddess energy. Obama's from Hawaii, home of Madame Pele, the Volcano and Fire Goddess. One of the forms she is known to appear in is as an old white haired woman. Then she is respectfully called "Tutu" Pele or Grandmother Pele.

There is a Grandmother who did a great job raising her daughter and there is hope breathing fresh air into the White House.
